Do Philadelphia Sports Fans Limit Their Team’s Title Chances?

Philadelphia Sports Fans
I appreciate how passionate East Coast fans are, and I know people in the Northeast, in particular, are quick to criticize their favorite team. But Philly fans are a different breed. They boo Santa Claus, they booed their 9–1 football team so badly that they’ve now lost 5 straight games. Now we know Philly fans are considered the meanest fans in the country. The question is, has the city’s teams underperformed historically due to negativity from the fan base?
There is psychological research that correlates negative media and fan support, which can directly result in lower performance.
Suppose we look at the professional baseball, football, and basketball teams. The Phillies have 2 titles in 140 years of existence, the Eagles have 4 titles (1 Super Bowl) in 100 years of fact, and the Sixers have 2 titles in 87 years. All have historically been very competitive but they’ve not won as many titles as their similarly tenured cities such as Boston (20+ titles), New York (20+ titles), Chicago (10+ titles), San Francisco (10+ titles), Los Angeles (10+ titles), etc.
A little more compassion and empathy could help their teams perform better.
I tackled this topic in a recent podcast as well.
