NFL Week 5 Fantasy Football Musings

NFL Week 5 Fantasy Football Musings
_Episode 42 of the Fantasy Sports Collective Podcast hosted by JayDubb, covers the weekly discussion on fantasy…_share.transistor.fm

There should be no debate on who the best teams are in the NFL through five weeks. There remain only two unbeaten, last year’s NFC title game participants (Eagles & 49’ers).

As a diehard, lifelong 49’ers fan I could take time in this forum to talk endlessly about the quality of this year’s squad/. I’ll refrain from going too deep on this but I must give you a few stats to noodle on. Brock Purdy has the 2nd best completion percentage and best QB rating over his first 10 starts in the history of the NFL. Even more impressive, here are only 4 QB’s in the history of the league who had 8 consecutive games scoring 30 or more points — Tom Brady (2x), Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner and now Brock Purdy. Will Purdy join this list of hall of farmers? The odds are against it but he’s starting to put himself in rare air. And you can say it’s the system but Trey Lance and Jimmy Garapoppo led this same squad last year without the same results. The 49’ers are now 10–0 in Purdy’s first ten regular season starts.

The last point before I get into the bullet points section of this weekly musings. Injuries, Injuries, Injuries, Injuries…they suck…it’s the worst part of the NFL and playing fantasy football. Justin Jefferson is now on IR, James Conner, Khalil Herbert and Devon Achance are likely going on IR (or will be after publishing this). There will be more, we all have to adapt as injuries pile on.

Fun Tidbits from Week 5 of the NFL Season?

  • The potential publicity stunt has done wonders for certain KC Chiefs follower counts. I’m not saying it’s not real but I am saying it’s been productive for reach.

What are the other storylines from week 5 of the NFL season?

  • The Green Bay Packers lost a game on a horse collar tackle…sometimes it does pay to commit a blatant foul.

  • The Rams maybe able to support 2 must start fantasy wide receivers if Sunday’s game vs. a top defense (Philly) is any indication. Both Cooper Kupp & Puka Nucua were WR2+ producers.
  • The NY Jets are dunking on the Denver Broncos. Shocking given both teams are underperforming. On that note, Breece Hall was a dynamic starter this past weekend. But don’t get too excited…he faced a defense that gave up 7 TD’s & 400+ yards to RB’s 2 weeks earlier (Miami’s Mostert & Achane). In that context Hall underperformed expectations.

Random Player Stats that Make You Think

  • The cheetah dropped another Unicorn performance (8 catches, 181 yards & 1 TD). He’s far and away the best fantasy WR right now.
  • The Miami Dolphins have cornered the market on speed. They have the top 7 fastest ball carrier speeds in 2023 (Tyreek Hill + De’Vone Achane + Raheem Mostert)
